A whiteout in Van Buren, Maine resulted in difficult driving conditions and a multi-car crash. While Police Chief Michael Bresett was helping drivers involved in that accident, he was hit by a passing car. Thankfully, a good samaritan was in the right place at the right time to save the chief.
The kind stranger, whose name hasn’t been released yet, drove past the scene of the accident after Chief Bresett was hit and stopped, put him in his car, and drove him to the hospital, according to Van Buren police Sergeant Luke Dyer. After undergoing surgery for multiple broken bones, the Chief is in good condition, but Dyer says he has a long road to recovery and is expected to need physical therapy.
Dyer says the hero has been in touch with Chief Bresett since the crash and that the department is planning to recognize him for his lifesaving efforts. The department and the chief’s family credit the stranger for saving Bresett’s life.
