GOOD NEWS: Chicago White Sox To Stop Serving Plastic Straws At Stadium

The Chicago White Sox are knocking it out of the park for Mother Earth as they officially become the first Major League Baseball team to stop allowing single-use plastic straws at their stadium. The team announced that they’re not going to be automatically giving fans straws with their drinks at Guaranteed Rate Field anymore, but don’t worry, biodegradable straws will be available by request.

This change is expected to prevent more than 215,000 plastic straws from ending up in landfills over the length of the season. The project is a collaboration with the Shedd Aquarium’s “Shedd the Straw” campaign to get Chicago business and residents to stop using plastic straws.
