"Hero" stops Waffle House shooter

He says saving others was just a selfish act.  He was just trying to save himself.  But no matter what his intention was, James Shaw Jr, saved countless people.  He put himself in danger and did it with an open heart.  He says his view of the world can't be changed.  He truly believes that most people are good.  Thank you, James!~Karla

Tennessee Waffle House shooter Travis Reinking is still at large, and police says he's considered armed and dangerous. The 29-year-old is accused of killing four people when he stormed a Waffle House early yesterday morning and opened fire. And it all could have been worse if it wasn't for the quick thinking of James Shaw Jr., who tackled the shooter when he paused to reload.

Police have swarmed homes and have trekked through nearby wooded areas in search of the suspect, who they believe is near Nashville. After the shooting, Reinking apparently fled the scene totally naked. Police believe he went to his apartment, put on a pair of pants and possibly escaped into the woods.

It should be no surprise that the suspect in the pre-dawn attack at a Tennessee Waffle House has a history with law enforcement. At a news conference, Don Aaron with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service for being in a restricted area near the White House in July 2017 and later released. Reinking was later interviewed by the Tazewell County, Illinois authorities and FBI. As a result, his Illinois firearms authorization was revoked by the FBI and four weapons were seized by Tazewell County authorities.

  • So, if he wasn’t allowed to have weapons, how’d he get them? They were apparently given to Reinking's father, who later acknowledged he gave the guns back to his son. Presently, two of the four guns that were given to Reinking are unaccounted for. The AR-15 rifle used in the shooting was recovered and another rifle was found at Reinking's apartment.
  • The dead have been identified as 29-year-old Taurean C. Sanderlin, 20-year-old Joe R. Perez, 21-year-old DeEbony Groves and 23-year-old Akilah DaSilva
