GOOD NEWS: UF Parking Violators Can Pay With Food Donations

Students and visitors who get a parking violation at the University of Florida can now pay out of their pantries instead of opening their wallets. The president of the university says he’s allowing people to pay parking fines by donating five food items to the school’s Field and Fork Food Pantry to satisfy each parking ticket from the last 12 months.

“For many years, parking tickets have been a source of contention between the university administration, and our students, staff, faculty, alumni, and visitors,” President W. Kent Fuchs explains in the 38-second video posted to UF's twitter account. "I am pleased to announced, on this first day of April, that UF will have an amnesty program for parking fines.”

As of Friday afternoon, Fuchs says 9,455 donations had been made to pay off 1,891 parking citations.
